Different types of clubs


Country Club


This type of club is a private club and often with a closed membership. It is usually located in city outskirts or rural areas and typically offers a wide range of recreational sports, for example, golf, swimming or tennis. Country club will usually provide hospitality to members and guests such as restaurant and bar, or even suitable accommodations for host-catered events like wedding. One of the example in Hong Kong is The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club.



City Clubs

One of the example of city club in Hong Kong is Yau Yat Chuen Garder City Club. It provides a variety of sports facilities and also food and beverage.

Professional Clubs

This type of club is for people in the same profession. The Friars Club in New York is an example of professional club.


Social Clubs

Social clubs may refer to a group of people or the place where they meet, generally formed around a common interest, occupation or activity. There are different categories of social clubs like sports club, university club and dining club etc.

Athletic Clubs

Athletic clubs or sports club is a club for the purpose of playing one or more sports. These clubs range from organizations whose members would play together, unpaid, to large commercial organizations with professional players and coaches which have teams and regularly compete against other clubs. Sometimes they would have a large crowd of fans and followers. Clubs may be defined to single sport, or several sports (multi-sport club). South China Athletic Association is an example of multi-sport club. It has own professional basketball and football team. Hong Kong Practical Taekwondo Association is a kind of single sport club in Hong Kong specifically served Taekwondo.



Dining Clubs

Dining clubs usually have membership system which formally meets for dinners and discussion on a regular basis. They may often invite some guest speakers. Clubs may limit their membership to those who meet highly specific membership requirements. Some clubs may even require applicants to pass an interview or pay a large membership fee or initial fee. Stock Exchange Luncheon Club is one of the examples of dining club which is a membership only club in New York Stock Exchange in Wall Street.


University Clubs

University Clubs are usually serves for students or staffs of different university which do not affiliated with any alumni groups. These university clubs aims to further their collegial ties and enjoy intellectual pursuits which is more popular in US. For example, University Club of Chicago.

Military Clubs
  • An institution in which military cadets gather to receive academic, athletic, and military education.
  • Serves to provide young men and women undergraduate education of the highest quality under military discipline.
 

 
      Example: Virginia Military Institute (VMI)

Mission is to produce educated, honorable men and women, prepared for the varied work of civil life, imbued with love of learning, confident in the functions and attitudes of leadership, possessing a high sense of public service, advocates of the American democracy and free enterprise system, and ready as citizen-soldiers to defend their country in time of national peril.

 Yachting Clubs

A sports club for sailing and rowing. Serves to provide members with an enjoyable and competitive experience of rowing and sailing through the seas. Some may be racing contests while others may be for self desire to exercise or to explore the sea.

      Fraternal Clubs

     A brotherhood, usually a distinct or formal organization or sometimes a secret society.o   Dedicated to the intellectual, physical, and social development of its members.Can be further divided into social, service, or professional/honor fraternities.

    Example: Beta Gamma Sigma is an honor society for business students and scholars. Founded in 1913 at the University of Wisconsin, it has over 700,000 members, selected from over 525 collegiate chapters in AACSB-accredited business schools.
Founded in the US, it has in recent years added chapters in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand Peru, Singapore, Sout Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. The purpose of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its members.

      Proprietary Clubs

     A private owned for profit group that sells membership to the public.
 
      Example: Contra Costa Country Club members will have the full rights and privileges of the clubhouse, golf course, driving range and swimming pool; subject to the Rules and Regulations adopted by the Board of Directors and in accordance with the provisions of the Contra Costa Country Club Bylaws.

Ordinary Membership
The majority of Members of the Club are Ordinary Members.
Entrance fees=$200,000

2.      Corporate Nominee Membership
Corporate Memberships occasionally become available. The company acquiring the Corporate Membership must nominate a full-time member of staff as the person entitled to use the Membership. Each Corporate Membership is limited to one nominee and their family.
Entrance fees=$3,000,000

3.       Short Term Non-refundable Corporate Nominee Membership
This facility enables a company to extend Membership of the Club to a nominee for a maximum of three years. After a fixed period of three years, the Membership terminates with no residual value.
Entrance fees=$500,000

1.       must be recommended by a Proposer and a Seconder
2.   attend the New Member Interview which is chaired by the Chairman for Membership Committee
3.      are subject to the final endorsement of the General Committee

1.   Company Country Club - Entrance fees= $765,000 of 9 units debenture, monthly subscription= $1,450
2.  Individual Country Club- Entrance fees=$510,000 of 6 units debenture, monthly subscription=$1,350
